Anlyan Consulting, LLC has developed the Health Team Dynamics Program for quality and patient safety teams (QPSTs) in health care organizations.  We position the QPSTs within the overall culture of the organization to help leaders understand how they might more effectively work with their constituents.  

   

 

In Phase 1 – Needs Analysis - we recommend a review of current QPST initiatives, practices and leadership behaviors against goals. Barometers may include interviews with leaders and bedside staff, reports and rankings from the usual agencies, data from in-house physician, staff and patient surveys, reports from other consulting firms, and the current strategic plan(s).

In Phase 2 – Alignment Around Goals– we work with the organization to create a roadmap to the future. Buy-in at the top is crucial. One hundred percent of top leadership must walk the talk. If the organization is unwilling or unable to commit to such, they will not be successful in creating commitment to the initiative at all levels of the organization.

Phase 3 – Performance Improvement Opportunities - At this point the QPST can identify and prioritize Performance Improvement Opportunities (PIOs) and choose those which are best positioned for successful execution.  A Team will be identified for each PIO.  Once a PIO Team has set its aim, and developed measures to determine whether a change leads to an improvement, the next step is to test a change in the real work setting.    We recommend that the organization begin with a team that includes early adopters and early majority (Rogers) as members.  

  

Phase 4 - Team Development Around PIOs.  If an organization wants what it has never had, it must do what it has never done.  Leaders, managers and team members will examine the roles they play in performance improvement and hold each other accountable using the Fulcrum Leader and Team approach.

 

Phase 5 - Roll Out.  This phase includes accountability for new procedures and new behaviors.  Accountability includes measurement of performance.

 

Phase 6 - Rediscovery.  You now have a new organization.  It is time to re-assess your goals and repeat the steps, as appropriate.  Successful organizations continuously re-invent themselves.
